As part of the University Scholarships Program, there are three opportunities to study for both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. These include:

Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship for International Students

As a way of welcoming Merited International Students to the University of Otago, the University of Otago has implemented a scholarship program that contributes to tuition fees only for undergraduate degree programs at the University. The Scholarship is open to students who have been offered a place in an eligible program and who are enrolled as a full-time student in the course. Accommodation is also one of the supporting benefits that students are eligible for.

University of Otago International Master’s Research Scholarship

Funding support is provided to international students at the Otago University for one year full-time enrolment, and in addition to this, funding support is also provided for the thesis component of a Master of Research degree for a maximum of one year full-time enrolment.

University of Otago Doctoral Scholarship

In contrast to the Master’s Research Scholarship, this scholarship provides a stipend per annum as well as tuition fee waivers for a maximum of 36 months capped at the domestic rate (excluding student services fees and insurance).

For Bachelor

Here are the requirements for the fully funded scholarships offered by the University of Otago:

  • Students from around the world are now welcome to apply
  • The only people eligible to apply for a Doctoral Scholarship are New Zealand citizens or New Zealanders with permanent resident permits
  • There are certain requirements that applicants must meet in order to be considered for admission
  • In order to be considered for this scholarship, applicants must provide a relevant qualification that is internationally recognized, such as A Levels, the International Baccalaureate, or the ATAR, obtained in New Zealand or, at an overseas of the high school.

  • Towards tuition fees for the Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship (Undergraduate) of NZD$10,000
  • (Master’s) $16,000 per annum stipend
  • Waiver of tuition fees for one year (Master’s)
  • An annual stipend of $28,600 (Doctoral) is provided
  • Waiver of tuition fees for up to three years (Doctorate)
