Applicants for the Scholarship (1st and 2nd rounds) are open to Masters by research/MPhil and PhD students as the University of Sydney welcomes all foreign students to apply for the Scholarship. By submitting your Expression of Interest (EOI) form before the deadline, you will be eligible to apply for the Australian Government’s research training program (RTP) Scholarship.
This scholarship is open to students who have applied for admission to a higher degree by research program and selected the appropriate box on the application form. As candidates will be automatically selected once they have been qualified under the RTP Scholarship in Australia, there is no need to submit a separate application form.
Scholarships are available in all academic fields as they cover tuition fees, travel expenses, and accommodation, and a yearly stipend is paid in two installments. The University of Sydney offers three RTP Fee Offset Scholarships which are unconditional offers for Australian students.

Eligibility Requirements for University of Sydney Scholarships in Australia 2024
- This scholarship is open to both domestic and international students
- University of Sydney offers a place to study to all applicants
- In order to qualify, applicants must be beginning or enrolled in an international postgraduate research program
- A high level of academic achievement, as well as research exposure and potential, are required
- The candidate must be enrolled in one of the University’s higher-degree by research programs
- Obtain a full-time position in a university’s Higher Degree by Research (HDR) program
- The recipient of this scholarship must not be receiving any other scholarship from an external source or from the Australian government.
- The applicant must not have received any scholarships in Australia within the last five years

How to Apply USydIS scholarships 2023
These are the steps for applying for University of Sydney scholarships in Australia in 2023 for international students (domestic students are also considered).
- To begin, you may want to visit the Research Supervisor Connect website in order to find a supervisor whose academic background aligns with yours.
- You may apply for admission by choosing any of the postgraduate research courses listed here, and then proceeding to check the eligibility requirements for admission
- If you are a PhD student, please contact a Prograduate Research Coordinator since you can find a listing of the supervisors HERE. The documents should include your academic background and experience in research.
- There is a requirement to submit a Research Proposal that should be 2-4 pages long (at least 1000 words) and outline the research topic, objectives, and significance.

- Attach all relevant documents, including identification and residency evidence, to your application.
- Students who are currently enrolled in HDR at the University need to complete a separate application form HERE.
Application Deadline
